Mirante de Itacoatiara

The house is perched on a hillside amidst a lush tropical garden.  It enjoys a south easterly view of the Atlantic Ocean, the Beach at Itacoatiara, and the surrounding bluffs.  There is about 2500 square feet of living space divided into three floors.   The top floor contains two bedrooms that share a large bathroom.  One bedroom is larger and on the front of the house, with a private veranda and ocean view. It has two tall twin beds that can be combined into a king size bed.  The other is a little smaller and has a window with a view of the garden in back of the house.  It has a queen size bed.  Both rooms have remotely controlled air conditioners.  Adjoining both rooms is the air conditioned TV salon that has a comfortable seating arrangement, stereo, TV, and computer.  See the Amenities section for complete details.

Ocean view from Master SuiteThe middle floor has two bedrooms with large French doors that open to the back of the house.  Like upstairs, these bedrooms share a marble bathroom.  One room has twin beds that can be converted into a king, and the other has a queen size bed.  Each room has a remotely controlled air conditioner.  Also on this floor is the main living area and dining room.  The living area has sofa seating, and the dining room table is gorgeous Brazilian furniture with ample seating for 8.  The living room is separated from the kitchen by a handsome bar that is kept stocked for use by our guests.  This floor also has a small screened tea veranda and opens directly to the pool and barbeque area.  The floor is completed by a powder room, the kitchen, and service area.  This floor, except for the bedrooms, is naturally cooled by the gentle ocean breezes, which makes it very comfortable as an extension of the pool area.

The bottom floor consists of a small suite with a queen size bed, air conditioner, and bath.  There is also a veranda there overlooking the gardens.  Underneath the pool is another bathroom with shower for the pool, and a large steam sauna.

Squirrel monkeyThe pool is adjacent to the front door of the house and is also on the second level.  In Brazil, like in Florida, the demarcation between indoor and outdoor living is intentionally blurred, and this house is no exception.  The pool itself is circular, and about 18 feet in diameter by 5 feet deep.  The pool area is shielded from the neighbors and very private, with a fabulous view of the ocean.  It is so private that you can enjoy the sun without clothing if you like, or maybe you are just a little shy in your swimming suit - just tell the staff you don't wish to be disturbed.  Connected with the pool is the churrasqueira.  This is an outdoor barbeque area with bar that is perfect for poolside entertaining.  We keep a refrigerator here so that your favorite drinks are always ice cold and convenient.

As is the style in South America, the entire property is surrounded by a security wall about eight feet high.  This prevents access to anywhere on the grounds except through the electric garage door or the smaller grounds door.  Inside is a lush tropical garden, with flowers, coconut palms, and tropical birdsong.  For a special treat, take your morning coffee up to the "mirante" or high lookout.  From here, you will have unparalleled views of the beach and the sea.  The property borders on a tropical preserve and is often visited by families of small monkeys (common marmoset) that live close by.  They are called "micos" and the staff can show you how they will eat bananas right out of your hand.
